A teenage gang leader has been arrested following an attack on workers at an embroidery factory in the Mansurabad area under Adabor Police Station on Saturday night.

According to witnesses, around 9pm, a group of 8-10 led by Rohan Khan Russell, also known as “Kala Russell,” attempted to snatch mobile phones from two factory workers. During the incident, the workers were attacked with sharp weapons and sustained injuries.

As news of the attack spread, nearby businessman and employees rushed to protest. Although the attackers initially retreated, they allegedly regrouped and launched another shortly afterward.

One of the injured workers was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment.

In protest, workers and factory owners gathered in front of Adabor Police Station around 11pm, creating tension in the area. Additional police were deployed, and a team of the army also arrived at the scene.

The situation calmed down around 11:30pm after assurances from a senior officer

Mostafizur Rahman Zahir, general secretary of the Embroidery Owners’ Association, said the workers had been paid their salaries earlier that night, and the gang attacked them with the intention of snatching the salary money and mobile phones.

A case has been filed naming six individuals, including Rohan Khan Russell as the prime accused, along with 15 to 20 unidentified persons.

Inspector (Investigation) Apurba Das of Adabor Police Station told Dhaka Tribune that the teenage gang leader Kala Russell was arrested shortly after midnight, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
