To mark the month of Victory, the Liberation War–based film "Nakshikathar Jamin", directed by Akram Khan and starring Jaya Ahsan, is set to return to the big screen.

Based on acclaimed writer Hasan Azizul Haque's story "Bidhobader Kotha", the film revisits the harrowing days of the 1971 Liberation War through an intimate and emotional narrative. At its heart is the story of two sisters whose lives are shaped by love, sacrifice and relentless struggle amid the turmoil of war.

Although "Nakshikathar Jamin" has been streaming on the local OTT platform iScreen since last October, those associated with the film have decided to bring it back to theatres in observance of Victory Month. Jaya Ahsan recently shared details of the special screening on social media.

The film will be screened on December 20 at 5:30 pm at the Russian Cultural Centre. According to the announcement, the special screening is being organised in remembrance of the martyrs and war heroines who sacrificed their lives during the Great Liberation War, achieved through the blood and lives of millions of Bengalis. Viewers have been requested to register online to secure their seats in exchange for an entry fee.

The film centres on the characters of Rahela and Saleha, portrayed by Jaya Ahsan and Fariha Shams Sheuti. The cast also includes Iresh Zaker, Rawnak Hasan, Dibya Joyti, Shoumya Joyti and others.

"Nakshikathar Jamin" sheds light on the sacrifices and suffering of women during the Liberation War, portraying the everyday brutality of violence, the spread of hatred and division within families, and conflicts between opposing brothers and their sons. Against this violent backdrop, the emotional bond, vulnerability and resilience of the two sisters take centre stage.

The film has received international recognition, winning the Best Film award at the Bengaluru International Film Festival in India and earning a nomination for the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
