Cristiano Ronaldo ended his World Cup knockout scoring drought as Portugal edged Croatia 2-1 after extra-long stoppage time in a dramatic Round of 32 clash in Toronto, booking a last-16 meeting with Spain.
Croatia looked set to force extra time after Josko Gvardiol found the net in the 13th minute of stoppage time, but a lengthy VAR review ruled out the goal, moments after substitute Goncalo Ramos had headed home a 94th-minute winner.
Earlier, Ronaldo had equalised from the penalty spot after Ivan Perisic gave Croatia the lead.
The night also saw Ronaldo, at 41 years and 147 days, become the oldest outfield player to start a World Cup knockout match, with Croatia captain Luka Modric (40 years and 296 days) moving into second.
It was an emotional occasion as Portugal honoured Diogo Jota on the first anniversary of his death, with Ronaldo wearing Jota's jersey after the match and the entire squad holding up his No. 21 shirt.
Ronaldo also embraced and consoled his longtime Real Madrid teammate Modric, who may have played his final World Cup match.
