The Ganatantrik Jukta Front on Friday demanded the publication of a white paper on the tenure of the immediate past interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

Leaders of the political alliance, in a statement, also called for a thorough investigation into corruption allegations that have surfaced against several advisers of the interim government.

The statement said that a white paper was essential for a ‘democratic transition.’

It added that if any adviser is found guilty of corruption, they must be brought to book.

The statement, signed by Razequzzaman Ratan, assistant general secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh, also criticised the slow pace of legal proceedings over the killings during the July mass uprising.

The alliance said that apart from a verdict in a single case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, there had been ‘no significant visible progress’ in ensuring accountability for the murders.

It also raised concerns over legal harassment, alleging that people were framed in cases in order to extort money from them.
