One of the partners of the Jamaat-e-Islami–led 11-party electoral alliance, the National Citizen Party (NCP), has been allocated 30 seats under the finalized list of candidates for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
The alliance has completed its candidate list for a total of 253 constituencies.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at 9pm on Thursday at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in the capital. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher disclosed the distribution of seats among the alliance partners.
Party sources of the National Citizens Party confirmed that its candidates will contest elections in several important and strategic constituencies across the country.
The 30 seats allocated to the NCP include Panchagarh-1 (Panchagarh Sadar, Tetulia and Atwari), Dinajpur-5 (Parbatipur and Phulbari), Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha and Kaunia), Kurigram-2 (Kurigram Sadar, Phulbari and Rajarhat), Natore-3 (Singra), Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur), Pirojpur-3 (Mathbaria), Tangail-3 (Ghatail), Mymensingh-11 (Bhaluka), Munshiganj-2 (Louhajang and Tongibari), Dhaka-8 (Motijheel, Ramna, Shahbagh, Paltan and Shahjahanpur), Dhaka-9 (Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda), Dhaka-11 (Badda, Bhatara and Rampura), Dhaka-18 (Uttara, Uttarkhan, Dakshinkhan, Turag and Khilkhet), Dhaka-19 (Savar), Dhaka-20 (Dhamrai), Gazipur-2 (parts of the city corporation area and cantonment), Narsingdi-2 (Palash and parts of Narsingdi Sadar), Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail and Ashuganj), Comilla-4 (Debidwar), Noakhali-2 (Senbagh and parts of Sonaimuri), Noakhali-6 (Hatiya), Lakshmipur-1 (Ramganj), Chittagong-8 (Boalkhali and Chandgaon–Panchlaish areas), Bandarban (Bandarban Hill District), Narayanganj-4 (parts of Sadar upazila) and Brahmanbaria-3 (Brahmanbaria Sadar and Bijoynagar).
The press conference further said that, in order to realize the aspirations of the July uprising and to build a new, discrimination-free Bangladesh, the 11-party alliance is working on a strategy of casting votes “in one box.”
