A special three-day theatre festival titled "Bijoy theke Bijoye- Natya Utsab 2025" will open this week at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, organisers announced.
The festival — a joint initiative of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), the Mohanagar Natya Sangsad, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Literary and Cultural Centre — runs from Thursday through Saturday and is timed to coincide with Victory Day commemorations.
At a press briefing in DUCSU on Wednesday, Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad, DUCSU's literature and culture secretary, said the programme will foreground productions inspired by the 1971 Liberation War alongside new works that draw a throughline from the 1971 struggle to the student-led mass uprising of July 2024. The curators aim to present the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the spirit of recent popular movements to a younger generation.
Each day's performances begin at 3:30 pm. The first two days will feature three plays apiece; the festival's closing day will present four productions, offering a concentrated programme of theatre from university and independent troupes.
