Police on Monday arrested a headteacher of a madrasa in connection with the alleged repeated rape of three madrasa students in Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah.

The accused, Abul Bashar, 33, of Harindia village in Kotchandpur upazila, was arrested from the madrasa in the evening, said Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotchandpur Police Station.

The father of one of the alleged victims filed a case with Kotchandpur Police Station on Monday night, he confirmed.

Three of the victims are residential students of the madrasa.

OC Mehedi told The Daily Star that the headteacher had allegedly raped the three students of the madrasa repeatedly over the past few days. On Monday, when the grandfather of one of the alleged victims came to the madrasa, the child informed him about the incident.

After returning home, the man informed his family, and all of them went to the madrasa in the evening and confronted the headteacher.

Receiving information, police went to the scene and detained the headteacher.

Later at night, the father of one of the alleged victims filed a rape case against him with the police station.

The OC said Abul Bashar has been arrested in the case and will be produced before a court on Tuesday.
