Police have deployed outside Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) headquarters ahead of a planned programme marking the death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Mushtuq Husain, a member of the party's Standing Committee, told bdnews24.com around 4pm on Friday that police had positioned themselves there to “disrupt” the party's event and lock down the building.

Bangladesh JaSaD had planned to hold a tribute for the nation's founding father at its Topkhana Road office in the afternoon.

Asked about the matter, Mazharul Islam, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Ramna Zone), said: "We've learnt they intend to hold an event there, but we haven't given permission for any kind of programme at that location."

He said the police presence was not a formal deployment but that officers were remaining alert to prevent any untoward incident.
