Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his spouse, Dr Zubaida Rahman, today spent time with students at Kazi Fazlul Huq Women's Hostel of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), where Dr Zubaida had lived during her student years.

The couple visited the hostel after inaugurating the “DMC Day 2026” programme by releasing balloons and pigeons on the campus at around 10:00am.

Students gathered in front of the hostel's main entrance ahead of their arrival and welcomed them.

Recalling an old memory, Tarique told the students, "When I used to bring Zubaida to the medical college, I would seat her beside me in the front seat of the car. Today, while coming here, I again asked her to sit in the front seat beside me, and I brought her to meet you."

Addressing the students, he said, "I pray that all of you become established in your respective fields."

Dr Zubaida became emotional while reminiscing about her years at the college.

"Today, many memories are coming back. I spent an important part of my life on this campus. Those days are coming back to my mind," she said.

Encouraging the current students, she said they should always look ahead despite the challenges they may face.

"We must always look forward. Many challenges and hardships would come in life. We should not hold on to anger or resentment. We must move towards a bright future," she said.

She also expressed hope that Dhaka Medical College would gain greater international recognition for the quality of its healthcare services.

"We have to take this medical college to such a level that people around the world recognise the quality of its healthcare services. One day, we should all be proud of this medical college," she added.

The students later took selfies with Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Rahman.
