Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser of the southern region of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and candidate of the 11-party alliance, is leading in four polling centres in the Comilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency, according to officially announced results.
Results from Gopal Nagar, his hometown polling centre, show that Hasnat secured 3,084 votes, while his rival, Md A Jasim Uddin of the Gono Odhikar Parishad (Truck symbol), received no votes.
At Ward 7 of the municipal centre, Hasnat obtained 1,383 votes compared to Jasim Uddin’s 480.
In Nabipur centre, Hasnat received 1,144 votes, while Jasim Uddin secured 72.
At the Maheshpur centre, Hasnat garnered 2,280 votes against Jasim’s 266.
Combined results from the four centres show Hasnat Abdullah with 7,892 votes, while Jasim Uddin has received 818 votes.
Meanwhile, Jasim Uddin announced his withdrawal from the election, alleging widespread irregularities and vote rigging in the constituency.
He made the announcement through Facebook Live around 5pm on Thursday after voting concluded.
In his statement, Jasim alleged that his polling agents were barred from entering several centres and were expelled from others. He also claimed that voters were obstructed from casting their ballots and pressured to stamp a specific electoral symbol.
“This is a farcical election. Therefore, I am boycotting it,” he said.
In the Comilla-4 seat, Hasnat Abdullah is contesting as the candidate of the 11-party alliance under the NCP banner.
BNP leader Manjurul Ahsan Munshi had initially received his party’s nomination for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Although his nomination was declared valid during scrutiny by the returning officer, Hasnat later filed an appeal with the Election Commission, alleging that Munshi had concealed loan default information in his nomination papers.
Following a hearing, Munshi’s candidacy was cancelled. He subsequently filed a writ petition with the High Court and later sought leave to appeal before the Appellate Division. However, his petition was dismissed on February 1, rendering him ineligible to contest the election.
