Robotaxis operated by Baidu’s Apollo Go service experienced a widespread outage across Wuhan, China, leaving passengers stranded for up to two hours, according to a recent report by Reuters.
As per the report, authorities described the incident as a “system failure” affecting at least 100 autonomous vehicles. The technical issue caused the vehicles to halt suddenly, in some instances on busy roads and fast lanes, raising safety concerns. Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the malfunction.
Baidu is among the largest robotaxi operators in China and has expanded internationally, including plans to deploy a fleet of over 1,000 autonomous vehicles in Dubai in the coming years.
