Leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh said at a protest rally in Dhaka on Thursday that city dwellers were suffering greatly from interrupted gas supplies in Dhaka and others cities in the country.

As a result, demand for Liquefied Petroleum Gas increased, and unscrupulous businessmen abnormally raised the price of gas cylinders, they added.


They called on the interim government to take immediate action to guarantee an uninterrupted flow of gas, allowing residents to cook food in their kitchens without disruption.

The Dhaka City north unit of the party organised the rally in front of the Titas Gas Transmission Company head office in Karwan bazar, led by North president Hafizur Rahman Sohel.

CPB president Kazi Sazzad Zahir Chandan said that poor management and corruption within Titas Gas were responsible for the lack of uninterrupted gas supply in urban households.

Former general secretary of CPB Ruhin Hossain Prince said that a vested quarter was creating artificial crisis of gas cylinders and increasing its prices in the market and additionally, some others were interested to increase dependence on the use of cylinders by interrupting gas transmission.

Hasan Hafizur Rahman Sohel also said that CPB would wage tougher movements if gas crisis was not resolved soon.

After the rally, a party delegation handed over a memorandum to the Titas Gas managing director.
