On August 1, 2024, amid the raging student-led protests nationwide, the government issued a notification banning the political activities of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Also, a commission comprising three High Court judges was formed to investigate deaths and damages from violence that had swept the country from  July 16 to July 21.

Earlier that day, Nahid Islam and other coordinators of the student movement, who had been held at the Detective Branch (DB) office, were released.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced it would hold prayers and a mass march of students and the public on August 2.  Across the country, people from all walks of life observed “Remembering Our Heroes” through prayers, marches, and protest rallies.

Expressing solidarity, artistes under the banner of the “Drishyomadhyom Shilpi Shomaj” gathered and held a rally in support of the students in Dhaka.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk wrote to the Bangladesh government, proposing to send a fact-finding team to investigate the violence.
