The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a month-long programme titled "Desh Gorte July Jagoron" to commemorate the July mass uprising and honour those martyred during the movement.

In a press release issued today, the party described July as a historic month of "new hope and inspiration" shaped by the sacrifices of the martyrs and the student-people uprising.

According to the release, the programme aims to commemorate the month with due respect and carry the aspirations of the uprising to the new generation and people from all walks of life.

Throughout July, the party will organise discussions, cultural events, processions, public outreach programmes, memorial events, sports and cultural competitions, and special programmes involving professionals and different sections of society.

The month-long programme will begin on July 1 with prayers at Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals' Memorial. On the same day, the party will hold a solidarity meeting of anti-fascist student organisations.

NCP will also announce a roadmap for month-long upazila-level marches under the banner "July Theke Jonopode", demanding justice and the implementation of the referendum.

From July 2 to 8, the party will conduct graffiti, wall-writing and banner campaigns across the country under the theme "July Awakening". A July Memorial Football Tournament will be held from July 5 to 9.

Other major programmes include a discussion titled "Changing direction of Bangladeshi culture: responsibility of writers and intellectuals" on July 10, a July women's rally on July 14, and a programme on farmers' expectations and gains from the July uprising on July 15.

On July 16, the party will offer prayers at the graves of all martyrs of the July uprising and organise doa and munajat across the country.

The NCP will bring out a coffin procession on July 17, demanding the trial of fascism. It will observe Private University Resistance Day on July 18.

The party will hold a remembrance and cultural event titled "Uttarar Roktakto July" on July 19 and a programme on the role of madrasa students in Jatrabari on July 20.

Other programmes include events highlighting the role of doctors and medical workers, testimonies of the injured, a youth convention, a labour rally, documentary screenings, discussions on entrepreneurs, teachers, the media and campus memories, as well as cultural programmes.

The party will conclude its observance with "Bijoyer Ullash" on August 5. According to the release, the NCP Diaspora Alliance will organise July programmes abroad throughout the month.

To implement the programme, the party has formed a "July Reawakening Implementation Committee".

Hasnat Abdullah, NCP's chief organiser for the southern region and a lawmaker, has been appointed convener of the committee, while Joint Convener Ali Ahsan Junaid has been made member secretary.

The 24-member committee also includes Ariful Islam Adeeb, Akram Hossain, Nusrat Tabassum, Monira Sharmin, Maulana Ashraf Mahadi, Saif Mostafiz, Alauddin Mohammad, Zahirul Islam Musa and others.
