Bangladesh home minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday told Parliament that the government has undertaken a range of measures to transform the police into a more disciplined and capable force to better ensure public safety.
Responding to a question from lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui in the Jatiya Sangsad, the minister said that the initiatives were being implemented under the government’s directive to enhance the overall capacity of the police through technology-driven plans and structured reforms.
He said Bangladesh Police has formulated long-term perspective plans, mid-term strategic frameworks and short-term annual programmes aimed at strengthening public security across the country.
Salahuddin said that continuous efforts were being made to improve the skills of police personnel through modern and up-to-date training both at home and abroad, alongside the expansion of training facilities, vehicles, equipment and other logistical support.
Highlighting further steps, the home minister said that the authorities were emphasising scientific investigation methods and the use of technology to ensure effective law enforcement.
Installation of CCTV cameras at key locations and the use of information technology to identify criminals and bring them to justice are also ongoing, Salahuddin said.
the home minister said that case-related data, including information on crimes and offenders, was being preserved through the CDMS system to support investigations and monitoring.
In addition, online general diary services and online police clearance systems have been introduced to improve public access and service delivery.
The minister said that these initiatives were part of the government’s broader efforts to build a disciplined, efficient and technology-driven police force dedicated to ensuring the safety and welfare of citizens.
