Jalkanya has organised a six-day group art exhibition titled ‘Mother in All Women’, marking Mother’s Day, inaugurated at the Safiuddin Shilpalay of Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Sunday.
The tenth exhibition of Jalkanya was jointly inaugurated by artist Ivy Zaman and singer Mehreen, said a press release.
The exhibition is featuring 35 artworks by 12 artists.
Artist Ashok Karmakar has assisted in the curation of the exhibition while its title sponsor is The City Bank PLC.
The opening ceremony was divided into two parts.
First, the guests spoke on the occasion of Mother’s Day and presented gifts to the guests and all the artists of Jalkanya, and in the second part, the lighting of the lamp.
Mentioning that every exhibition of Jalkanya is different, Ashok Karmakar thanked mothers for painting and exhibiting paintings outside of their work.
Mehreen said, ‘I am a mother and I also have a mother. I have many memories as a mother. If you follow your mother’s words in life, you do not need anything else. The key to heaven is in the hands of a mother.’
Mentioning that every day is mother’s day, Ivy Zaman praised the artists for taking part in this exhibition despite doing all the work as mothers.
Moderating the event, Jalkanya founder Suparna Alice Gomez said that to be a mother, one must have a feeling of motherhood.
Suparna Alice Gomez, Sabia Nasrin, Elena Chakma, Mahfuza Khanam, Jacqueline Ria Rosario, Shama Sayom, Ernestina Papia Gomez, Dipanwita Mahaldar, Israt Binte Rauf, Salsabil Sultana, Zeenatul Kubra Nipa and Silvia Teresa Costa have displayed their artworks in the exhibition.
The exhibition will end on May 15.
