Bangladesh pulled off a landmark Test victory over Australia in Darwin on Sunday (August 16), chasing down a modest target of 57 runs to win the opening match of the two-Test series.

Australia were dismissed for 284 in their second innings, leaving Bangladesh with 57 runs to win. Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed five wickets, while Hasan Mahmud took three, giving Bangladesh a total of nine wickets between them in the innings.

Australia began the day at 161-4, with Cameron Green and Alex Carey continuing their partnership. Green top-scored with 87 before Hasan Mahmud removed him at 278, leaving Australia with only one wicket remaining.

Miraz had already accounted for Carey, who made 49, as well as Beau Webster (15) and Pat Cummins (14). He had also dismissed Steven Smith for 44 on Saturday. His final wicket came when Nathan Lyon was trapped lbw for 15, wrapping up Australia's innings at 284.

Bangladesh had gained a commanding advantage earlier in the match by bowling Australia out for 198 in the first innings and then posting 426. Tanzid Hasan struck his maiden Test century, while Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 84 and Miraz scored 65, giving Bangladesh a 228-run first-innings lead.

Hasan Mahmud finished with six wickets in Australia's first innings and added three more in the second, while Taskin Ahmed claimed the remaining wicket.

Bangladesh entered the final chase needing just 57 runs for their first-ever Test victory over Australia.
