Four Bangladeshi brothers from Chattogram were found dead inside a car in Oman early yesterday, according to community representatives and local officials.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Rashed, Mohammad Sahed, Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shahid. They hailed from Bandarajar Para area under Lalanagar union of Rangunia, said Mohammad Yasin Chowdhury, president of Chattogram Samity in Oman.
He said the four brothers were in the Barka area last evening and later headed towards Muladdah. Their bodies were recovered from a car parked in front of a clinic in Muladdah around 2:00am local time.
According to Yasin, one of the brothers sent a WhatsApp voice message to a relative living in Barka after 8:00pm, saying they were feeling seriously ill and were unable to get out of the vehicle. He also shared their location.
“Later, around 1:00am, two Bangladeshi expatriates spotted the four men lying unconscious inside the parked car and informed police. Later, police arrived at the scene, opened the vehicle and recovered the bodies,” he said.
“It is believed they drove to the clinic seeking treatment after feeling unwell,” Yasin added, saying the bodies have been kept for autopsy.
Repeated attempts to contact Mohammad Enam, another brother of the deceased who is currently in Bangladesh, were unsuccessful.
Amir Hossain, a member of Lalanagar Union Parishad, said the deaths of the four brothers have left the area in mourning.
Efforts are underway to bring the bodies back to Bangladesh, he added.
