A daylong training workshop focusing on film education and its expanding relevance was held at Jagannath University on Tuesday, bringing together more than two hundred students from different departments.
The event was jointly organised by the university’s film and television department and the Bangladesh cinema and television institute. It took place from 9:00am to 1:00pm in Room 712 of the Shaheed Sajid academic building.
Speaking at the workshop, the chief executive of BCTI, Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin, highlighted the need for stronger coordination between educational institutions and industry bodies to expand film education across the country.
He noted that despite budget constraints and operational challenges, BCTI continues to work toward developing students’ practical skills and professional capacity.
A paper presentation was delivered by S M Imran Hossain, who said that cinema is not merely a form of entertainment but also a powerful medium that shapes education, culture, and national identity.
He further observed that centralised training in the capital often limits opportunities for aspiring filmmakers from district-level areas.
Ruaz Uddin, a student from the film and television department, said such initiatives help enhance creativity and provide practical exposure.
Meanwhile, Israt Jahan Munia from the department of mass communication and journalism described the workshop as an important step toward raising awareness about film education.
In his concluding remarks, department chairman Dr Shah Md. Nistar Jahan Kabir termed the event timely and effective for students, emphasising its relevance in strengthening academic and professional understanding of the film sector.
