Police have submitted a chargesheet into the case over murder and gang-rape of a five-year-old in Mymensingh’s Dhobaura upazila within nine days of the incident.
The chargesheet was submitted to the Mymensingh Chief Judicial Magistrate Court yesterday evening in the presence of Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, superintendent of police in Mymensingh, and other senior police officials.
The chargesheet was prepared after receiving the autopsy report and DNA report, said Dhobaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam, the investigating officer of the case.
The child was killed after rape at Tangati village in Dhobaura on June 14. Police recovered the body from the bank of the Kangsha river and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy the following day.
The victim’s father lodged a case over rape and murder allegations with the police station accusing unknown individuals, said the OC.
The OC said the child went out of her house on June 14 afternoon and did not return. After searching, the family members found her body around 10:00pm that day.
Later, police arrested four suspects -- Maruf, 19; Arif, 19; Rakib, 21; and Sayem, 19 -- from the same area. The four were produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate Tonoy Saha where they gave confessional statements, said the OC.
