D.Net has appointed Professor Dr Shah Md Ahsan Habib as chairperson of its governing body, effective January 1, 2026, according to a press release.

A co-founder of D.Net, Habib brings experience in academia, policy research, governance and development finance. He is currently a professor (selection grade) at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and is known for work on banking, inclusive finance, SME development and green banking, the release said.

Alongside his role at D.Net, he serves as an independent director of IPDC Finance PLC and is a member of the company’s board audit committee and risk management committee, it added.

The release said Habib earned a PhD in India and completed a post-doctoral fellowship on green banking at Syracuse University in the United States under a Senior Fulbright Scholarship. 

It added that he has more than 29 years of professional experience, including teaching, policy research and consultancy assignments with institutions such as the World Bank, ADB, IFC, UNDP, UNEP, GIZ and DFID.

Habib has authored more than 250 research publications and written more than 250 newspaper articles on finance and development issues, according to the release.

“D.Net has always stood for innovation, inclusion, and social impact. I am honored to take on this responsibility and look forward to working with the team to further strengthen D.Net’s role in empowering communities through knowledge, technology, and collaboration,” Habib said in the release.

He is also a member of the ICC Bangladesh Banking Commission and a trustee of Valor of Bangladesh, it added.
