At least five people were killed in a fire that broke out at a tin-shed gas lighter manufacturing factory in Kadamtali Gol Chattar area of Keraniganj on Saturday.

The fire originated at about 1:00pm and was brought under control at about 2:30pm, according to a text message sent by media wing of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Fire service’s warehouse inspector Anwarul Islam said that five charred bodies had been recovered from the spot so far.

A total of seven firefighting units were working to fully douse the fire, he said

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be immediately determined, Anwarul added.
