A case has been filed against 55 people over Saturday’s attack on the motorcade of Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) BNP MP Aynul Haque.
Local BNP leader Shamimul Hasan filed the case against 15 named people and 40 unidentified people with Raiganj Police Station on Saturday night, Md Ahsanuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, said today.
The OC said the accused belong to various political parties but declined to disclose their names for the sake of investigation and arrest efforts.
Meanwhile, Raiganj police arrested Md Alamgir Hossain, one of the named accused, during a drive this afternoon, said the OC, adding that operations were underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
“We are analysing video footage of the incident to identify the culprits and arrest the attackers,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday evening, a group of miscreants launched a sudden attack on the motorcade of BNP lawmaker Aynul Haque as he was returning from a meeting at Dhangora Bazar in Sirajganj's Raiganj upazila. Although the lawmaker was unhurt, his private car was damaged in the incident.
Following the attack, the lawmaker went live on social media and alleged that members of Jamaat and the NCP were responsible for the attack.
