The country's state-run television channel BTV and two satellite channels, T-sports and Somoy TV, will live telecast all the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches for local audiences in Bangladesh.
‘We have received the letter of confirmation today [Friday] from BTV, which earned the broadcast rights for Bangladesh,’ Ahmed Raqib, head of marketing at T-sports, told New Age on Friday.
Raqib added that, alongside BTV and T-sports, Somoy TV will also telecast the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Bangladesh.
The Singapore-based company Springbok Pte Ltd initially secured the broadcasting rights but later relinquished their deal in May, which put the telecast of the World Cup matches in South Asian countries at risk.
Following their exit, BTV took advantage of the situation to negotiate with FIFA for the rights at a lower price.
The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19. It will be jointly hosted by sixteen cities—eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada.
This will be the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three nations and the first to include 48 teams with a record of 104 matches.
