The Indian High Commission in Dhaka is going to resume full-scale processing of tourist visa applications from Bangladeshi citizens at five visa application centres from June 28, after nearly two years of limited visa issuance.
The issuance of all types of visas, except emergency medical visas, remained restricted amid strained relations between the two neighbouring countries following the ouster of the Awami League regime in a mass uprising in August 2024.
‘I am very happy to announce that we are resuming normal processing of tourist visa applications. Visa applications can be submitted from June 28, 2026,’ Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi made the announcement at the Indian Visa Application Centre at Jamuna Future Park in the capital Dhaka.
He said that India would continue to facilitate medical visas in urgent cases on humanitarian grounds.
He added that visas would be issued through the five centres in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Sylhet and Khulna, and expressed hope that the activities would be expanded further in the days to come.
On Thursday, the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner presented his credentials to Bangladesh president Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in the capital.
