Leaders of the Democratic Rights Committee, Bangladesh on Sunday at a rally in Dhaka called on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government to scrap the unequal business deal signed with the United States during the interim government’s tenure, after discussing it in the current budget session.

They organised the rally in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban chaired by its central leader economist Anu Muhammad.


Anu Muhammad called on the BNP-led government to scrap the unequal business deal, adding that otherwise, the committee will wage a vigorous movement to compel the government to cancel it.

The committee woild hold a grand rally in Dhaka in the first week of July to press its demands, Anu Muhammad announced.

Politicians Iqbal Kabir Jahid, Harun Ur Rashid, Mushrefa Mishu, Jafar Hossain,  Baki Billah, Dhaka University teacher Rushed Faridi, women leader Shima Dutta, professional Shakil Akter, Monzur Al Matin, cultural activists Jamsed Anwar, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed and others spoke at the rally.

From the rally, on behalf of the organisation, an open letter was sent to the prime minister, speaker and members of the parliament, demanding steps be taken to scrap the unequal deal that would hamper out agriculture, poultry and other sectors.

The Dhaka University teacher and central leader of the committee read out the open letter in the programme.

Different cultural organisations took part in the rally and performed patriotic songs.
