Leaders of Jatiya Mukti Council on Friday at a rally in Dhaka called on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government to take adequate steps to save the farmers of the haor area.
Jatiya Mukti Council organised the rally in front of the National Press Club, demanding government steps to save haor area farmers struggling to harvest paddy due to unpredictable rain.
Mukti Council coordinator Faiezul Hakim, who chaired the rally, said that the farmers of the haor area failed to harvest their paddy due to the unpredictable flow of water from the upper basin of India.
Another central leader Kazi Iqbal called on the BNP-led government to take adequate steps to save the affected farmers.
He called on the government to scrap the ‘unequal’ trade deal signed with the United States government during rule of interim government.
Student leader Mitu Sarker also called on the government to implement measures to protect the farmers.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded several city roads.
