A 50-year-old man was shot dead by assailants in Rajshahi city on Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Mostafa, son of Taimur Uddin of Dashmari village under Binodpur Bazar area of Motihar police station in Rajshahi city, said police.
Motihar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Kalam Azad said Mostafa sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg around 8:00pm on a road beside the boundary wall of Khonjapur graveyard in Ward No 29 of Rajshahi city.
He lost consciousness immediately after being shot and therefore could not identify the attackers.
He was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said the OC.
Confirming the death, hospital spokesperson Dr Sanker K Biswas said Mostafa had already died before being brought to the hospital.
OC Azad also said police are working to identify those involved in the attack.
Mostafa was not affiliated with any political party and earned his livelihood as a day labourer, he added.
