Veteran actor Abul Hayat has returned to directing after nearly a year-long break, with shooting for his new drama “Sakhina” currently underway. The shoot began last Tuesday at a resort in Rajendrapur, Gazipur.

Based on a story by renowned writer Rabeya Khatun, “Sakhina” has been adapted for the screen by Abul Hayat himself. Speaking from the shooting location on Wednesday afternoon, the veteran actor-director said Rabeya Khatun’s body of work continues to inspire filmmakers.

“Rabeya (Khatun) Khala has hundreds of stories. Among them are many that can be produced within a modest budget. After reading ‘Sakhina’, I felt it was a story worth working on. That’s why we’ve started shooting,” he said.

Set against a rural backdrop, the drama stars Mousumi Mou in the central role. Expressing her excitement, Mousumi said it was a rare opportunity to work on a Rabeya Khatun story under Abul Hayat’s direction. “It truly feels like a privilege,” she added.

Reflecting on his current approach to work, Abul Hayat said he is no longer interested in working continuously as he once did. “I now carefully choose stories or characters that appeal to me. I spend the rest of my time with my family and resting. Still, if I don’t act, I feel a sense of helplessness,” he said.

The cast of “Sakhina” also includes Shamol Mawla, Naresh Bhuiyan, and Badrul Hasan Khan. The drama is being produced for release during the coming Eid-ul-Fitr.
