Police recovered the body of a Manikganj unit leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal from a rented house in Ashulia on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Abu Sayem, 27, joint organising secretary of the Manikganj district unit of JCD and son of Abdul Wahab Munshi of Gopinathpur Bhatpara area under Harirampur upazila in Manikganj district.

Police suspected that Sayem committed suicide by hanging himself from the grill of the balcony.

Police said Sayem’s wife did not find him in bed after waking up from sleep in the morning.

At one stage, she saw him hanging from the balcony of the flat in the Chitrashail area of Ashulia.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital for post-mortem examinations.

Quoting family members, police said preliminary findings suggest Sayem had been suffering from financial difficulties and was burdened with debt, which might have led him to take the extreme step.
