Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir announced plans to establish “zero-complaint police stations” at district headquarters nationwide to restore public trust in the police force.

Each district headquarters station will be monitored around the clock by a circle officer to ensure proper service and accountability, Fakir said during his first official press conference at the Police Headquarters Media Center on Monday. The media center is located on the ground floor of the Central Command and Control Center building of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

“We want to build district headquarters police stations as zero-complaint stations. A circle officer will continuously monitor all activities. Our goal is to provide services in such a way that people visiting police stations can return with a smile,” he said.

The IGP described the Bangladesh Police as a historic, service-oriented institution committed to the welfare of the country and its people. He said members of the force have always performed their duties with professionalism and dedication during crises and will continue to do so. He also emphasized reducing police response time and ensuring that no complaints remain against police services.

Referring to the recent national election on February 12, Fakir said the new government has pledged to maintain law and order across the country, with the police playing a key role in fulfilling that commitment.

He also reiterated his zero-tolerance policy against extortion since assuming office. “The police will take action against extortionists, drug traffickers, and criminals, regardless of political affiliation. There will be no partisan consideration,” he said, adding that clear instructions have already been issued to field-level officers.

Fakir noted that police will respond immediately to any sensational incidents, visiting scenes and taking appropriate legal action. Strict measures will be taken against gang rape, rape, and other forms of violence against women. He said the Criminal Investigation Department’s capabilities will be further modernized to improve the quality of investigations and ensure speedy case resolution so that real offenders can be brought to justice.

Eid security measures

ddressing security preparations for the upcoming Eid al‑Fitr, the IGP said police have already taken steps to ensure safe travel for people returning home via roads, highways, waterways, and railways. Highway robberies, extortion, and muggings will not be tolerated. District police, along with the Highway Police Bangladesh, have been instructed to strengthen security, and the Rapid Action Battalion will also be deployed. Security has also been increased at major shopping markets nationwide to prevent theft and robbery.

Monitoring labor situation

Fakir acknowledged that labor unrest sometimes emerges in the readymade garment sector before Eid due to disputes over wages and allowances, which can impact law and order. To address this, police have identified vulnerable factories and are coordinating with labor leaders, factory owners, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) to resolve potential disputes.

Vigilance against extremism

He also said police will remain alert to prevent any rise in extremist activities during Eid.

“We believe the people are the main strength of the state. Therefore, we are always committed to standing by the people and providing them with the highest level of service,” Fakir added.
