Instagram has introduced a redesigned wordmark, the text-based version of its logo, updating the lettering for the first time since 2016 with a new typeface that head of Instagram Adam Mosseri described as "sharper and more modern."
The change was announced by Mosseri on both Instagram and Threads. The redesign retains the single-word format and overall simplicity of the previous logo but introduces new typographic flourishes — including curves on the letters s, r, and g — that recall cursive handwriting.
Responses to the new design have been mixed. Some users have praised the fresher aesthetic and the clarity of the font choice, while others have struggled to read the letter r, noting that its shape resembles the sail on a small boat rather than a conventional letter. Others joked that the logo now reads "Instagzam."
The wordmark update does not change Instagram's recognisable colourful gradient app icon, which also dates from the 2016 redesign when the company moved away from its original brown camera design. Meta has not yet indicated whether further design changes are planned.
