Three members of Myanmar's security forces -- a soldier and two police officers -- have been arrested after entering Bangladesh illegally while fleeing the ongoing conflict in Myanmar's Rakhine State.

The three crossed the Naf River and entered Bangladesh through the Naittongpara area of Teknaf municipality on Monday afternoon, where they were detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). They were later handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station.

The detainees were identified as Htun De Te, 38, a member of the Myanmar military, Kyaw Naing, 35, and Thein Zaw, 33 -- both members of the Myanmar police. They are residents of Yangon and Maungdaw.

Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Saiful Islam said a case has been filed against them for illegal entry into Bangladesh.

"They were shown arrested and sent to Cox's Bazar District Jail through the court today," the OC said.

During preliminary interrogation, the three told investigators they had been captured by the Arakan Army on February 24 and held captive in Maungdaw. They claimed they escaped on Sunday by breaking through a fence before swimming across the Naf River into Bangladesh.
