Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman today said that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's visit to his house was a historic moment for national politics.

In a statement, Shafiqur reaffirmed Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment, along with the 11-party alliance, to building a prosperous, stable, and modern state based on democratic values and constitutional governance.

The BNP chairman visited the Bashundhara residence of the Jamaat-e-Islami ameer for a meeting this evening.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam accompanied Tarique.

Following the meeting, Shafiqur said, “I extend congratulations in advance to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman as the future prime minister of Bangladesh. He came to my residential office today. His arrival is a historic moment for our national politics.”

He added, “I dream of a Bangladesh that will be free from fascism, sovereign, and founded on justice and fairness.”

Jamaat chief said Tarique assured him of effective measures to prevent post-election violence and attacks on opposition activists and minority communities.

“I welcome this assurance. Our expectation is that no citizen should fall victim to fear or insecurity,” he said.

He further noted that Jamaat would extend full cooperation to the elected government on matters of national interest, while remaining uncompromising in fulfilling its constitutional duties as an ideological opposition.

“Our objective is not conflict but correction; not obstruction but oversight,” Shafiqur said, stressing that the people of Bangladesh expect a parliament that safeguards justice and citizens’ rights while ensuring stability and progress.
