A court in Rajshahi has fined a BNP leader Tk 1 lakh after a case he filed, alleging assault while attempting to vote in the 11th national election, was proven false.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Judge Md Saddam Hossain delivered the verdict in the presence of Sazzad Hossain on Sunday afternoon, said Court Inspector Abdur Rafiq.

The court also ordered that he will have to serve one month in jail if he fails to pay the fine within seven days.

Additionally, two accused who had been jailed in the case have been directed to receive the compensation from the fine.

The convict, Sazzad Hossain, is a resident of Belua Kholabona area of Paba Upazila and serves as organising secretary of Haripur union BNP.

He filed the case with Damkura Police Station on August 23, 2024.

In the case, Sazzad alleged that on December 30, 2018, the day of the 11th national parliamentary election, he was obstructed, threatened at gunpoint, and assaulted while trying to vote at Kosba High School centre.

He accused 13 individuals, including then Haripur Union Parishad Chairman Bazle Rezvi Al Hasan Munjil and local Awami League leader Saidur Rahman Badal.

However, evidence presented before the court showed that Sazzad was in Rajshahi Central Jail on the day of the alleged incident, proving beyond doubt that the case was entirely false.
