Bangladeshi visual artist Biplab Biprodas’s third solo painting exhibition, titled ‘Earth & Memory’, explores the enduring relationship between humanity and rural landscape of Bangladesh, which is currently under way at the Alliance Française de Dhaka at Dhanmondi.

The week-long exhibition, which was inaugurated on Friday, displays 39 acrylic and mixed-media paintings on canvas and paper that depict landscape, memory, identity, and the enduring relationship between people and the natural world.

The series comprises one large artwork and 22 medium-sized square acrylic-on-canvas paintings, while 16 small mixed-media pieces on paper abstractly echo river landscapes, cultivated fields, village pathways, monsoon skies, weathered architecture and personal memories of place and seasons.

His artworks are composed of small linear forms, including flower vases, flowers, boats, fish, and trees; while the artist uses a low chroma of bright colours, texture is the key element of his displayed series.

The mixed-media on paper series, titled Salt and Song, also reflects his composition style, using high pigment alongside chaotic lines and forms that depict memories.

‘Every layer of soil carries stories. The land remembers footsteps, labour, harvests, storms, rituals, silence, and loss. I wanted to create works that feel as though they are emerging from memory itself,’ said Biprodas, who received his artistic training at Khulna Art College before completing his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Development Alternative in Dhaka.

Biprodas has exhibited extensively in Bangladesh and abroad, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions across South Asia. His previous solo exhibitions include Metropolitan Melodies (2024) at Art Bangla Gallery and Epitaph to My Soul (2008) at the Radius Centre in Dhaka.

The exhibition will remain on display daily until June 10.
