Three people, including two women, were killed and another woman was critically injured after a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Shambhuganj Railway Crossing on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway today.

Police could not immediately identify the deceased.

The accident occurred around 11:30am, said Ashraful Karim, additional superintendent of police in Mymensingh.

He said one person died on the spot after the truck struck the auto-rickshaw. Locals rescued four injured people and took them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

Mohammad Nazrul Islam, in-charge of the MMCH police camp, said three women and the auto-rickshaw driver were brought to the hospital.

Doctors declared two of the women dead. The driver was discharged after receiving primary treatment, while another woman is undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition, he said.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the MMCH morgue for autopsy.

A case has been filed in connection with the incident, police said.
