Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 26 leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies leaders and activists conducting eight drives in different areas in Dhaka city on Monday.

DMP confirmed it to media through a press release issued on Tuesday.

The DMP launched the drives amid possibilities of clashes and chaos marking the 77th founding anniversary of AL, of which activities are now banned until the trial of the atrocities during the 2024 July uprising.

Of the arrested, two were arrested by Ramna police, 10 by Dhanmondi police, one by Bangshal police, eight by Mohammadpur police, and one each by Mirpur and Turag police, the release said.

DMP additional deputy commissioner for Media and Public Relations Niaz Mehedi said that the process for taking legal actions against them was underway and such drives would continue to maintain law and order, and public security.
