The forest department’s wildlife crime control unit on Tuesday rescued 42 wild animals of various native species during a raid in the Sonali Bazar area of Eastern Housing at Mirpur-12 in the capital, arresting an alleged wildlife trafficker.
According to officials, the rescued animals included one hornbill, three spectacled langurs, 13 hill turtles, 12 parakeets, one myna bird, three slow lorises, one white owl, and three civet cats.
Wildlife inspector Ashim Mollick confirmed the operation and said the animals were recovered from the possession of wildlife traffickers during the raid.
One person was arrested in connection with the illegal trade, he added.
