A woman and her mother were stabbed to death allegedly by the woman's husband in Dhaka's Kalabagan area this morning.

The deceased were identified as Farzana Akhter Ratri, 21, and her mother, Firoza Begum, 40, said Md Fazle Ashique, officer-in-charge of Kalabagan Police Station.

Police detained Ratri's husband, Hridoy alias Shipon, after the incident.

The killings took place around 9:30am in the Kitchen Goli area of Kalabagan, the OC said.

According to police, an argument broke out between the couple. Firoza intervened to stop the quarrel and sided with her daughter. The husband then allegedly stabbed his wife before attacking his mother-in-law.

Ratri died at the scene. Firoza was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
