The primary and mass education ministry on Wednesday gave instruction to all government primary schools to ensure the fluency of the students in Bangla, English and mathematics subjects by July this year.

Otherwise, salaries of the concerned teachers will be stopped.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on April 27 headed by the ministry secretary Md Shakhawat Hossain and further instructions were given at a Zoom meeting held on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the primary education officials of all districts sent a letter to the government primary schools’ head and assistant teachers.

The letter read that as per the instructions, 90 per cent fluency will have to be achieved by the third-grade students in Bangla, the fourth-grade students in four rules of primary (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and the fifth-grade students in English by this July.

Strict instructions have also been given regarding achieving 100 per cent fluency in these subjects by this July.

The teachers were instructed to teach five pages of the Bangla textbook to Class III, five pages of the English textbook to the Class V students and mathematics to the Class IV students daily and will conduct the assigned lessons later.

‘If the desired skills are not achieved within the specified period, there are instructions to stop the salary allowance of all concerned,’ the letter read.

The head and assistant teachers of each school were instructed to formulate an action plan to achieve the mentioned skills and take necessary measures.

At present there are a total of 65,620 government primary schools.
