A Rohingya woman was killed and a three-year-old child injured after a landslide struck a shelter at Rohingya Camp-8 East in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya on Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:30pm in block D/5, sub-block B/77 of the camp. Local sources said a portion of a hillside suddenly collapsed onto a shelter built on its slope, killing Bibi Hafsa, 19, on the spot. A 3 year-old Abdul Majid sustained injuries in the incident.

Local volunteers and residents rushed to the scene, rescuing the victims and other family members trapped inside the collapsed shelter. The injured child was later taken to GK Hospital for treatment.

Atikur Rahman Majumder, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said continuous rainfall had loosened the soil on the hillside, triggering the landslide. With this incident, a total of 14 Rohingyas have been killed in different landslides in the camps during this monsoon.
