They complete voter registration for Dhaka-17

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman today visited the Election Commission (EC) to register as voters for the 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum scheduled for February 12 next year.

According to EC officials, both filled out online forms to become voters of Ward 19 under Dhaka-17 constituency (Gulshan) and Dhaka North City Corporation.

The development was confirmed by National ID (NID) Director General ASM Humayun Kabir this morning.

Tarique entered the Election Training Institute (ETI) of the EC around 1:00pm, while Zaima had completed her registration slightly earlier at around 12:45pm.

At 1:00pm, Tarique left the EC after completing his voter registration process.

NID DG ASM Humayun Kabir said the pair will receive their National Identity Cards within 5 to 24 hours of completing the registration process.

"As far as we know, he filled out the form online. He has now come only to complete registration by providing fingerprints and iris scans," he added.

He further explained that the software will automatically check the server to ensure the information does not match anyone else's.

If no match is found, an NID number will be generated within 5 to 24 hours. After that, the NID or smart card can be collected from the EC, and a notification will also be sent to the registered mobile number for download.

On December 25, Tarique Rahman returned home from London with his wife and daughter, bringing an end to his 17-year exile. On the third day after his return, he completed his voter registration at the Election Commission, alongside his daughter Zaima Rahman.
