Posts, telecommunications and information technology minister Fakir Mahbub Anam Tuesday told the Jatiya Sangsad that that the government was planning to establish franchise post offices and postal pickup points under the Postal Department as part of efforts to modernise and expand postal services across the country.

During the third sitting of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad’s second session chaired by speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, the minister added that site selection was underway for the planned franchise post offices and pickup points.


Responding to a question from Rangpur-3 lawmaker Mahbubur Rahman Belal, the minister also said that home delivery of land documents, passports and driving licences was currently being provided through the postal network, while the introduction of cash-on-delivery services for e-commerce products was under process.

He said that video traffic violation notices and traffic-related documents issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police were also being delivered by post.

To support the growing e-commerce and f-commerce sectors, the government has established 14 fulfilment centres across the country, which will provide services including product collection, storage, processing, sorting, transportation and distribution, he said.
