Two accused in the rape case of a woman on a moving bus in Tangail confessed to their involvement before the court on Friday.
The accused bus driver Mohammed Altaf, 25, and one of his assistants, Mohammed Rabbi, 21, gave confessional statements under section 164 at the senior judicial magistrate Rumelia Siarjam’s court in Tangail.
The court later sent the two accused to jail, court inspector Sajjad Hossen confirmed.
On early Thursday, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped on a moving bus by its driver and staff after she boarded the bus in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, to go to Ashulia.
The driver took the bus towards Tangail, and when it reached the Korotia Underpass area of Tangail Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon, the police, sensing something suspicious, seized the bus, detained the driver and two assistants, and rescued the victim, according to the police.
Later, the victim filed a case against the trio Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, Samajtantrik Mahila Forum in a statement on Friday condemned the incident and demanded exemplary punishment for all involved in the rape incident.
The incident once again proved that women were not safe in public transports as such incidents have happened several times earlier, the statement read.
