Two people were killed and at least six others were injured after a boundary wall of Mirpur University College collapsed on people waiting in line to buy Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) products in Dhaka's Mirpur this afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1:30pm when an 8ft high boundary wall suddenly gave way as a group of people, mostly women, queued beside the college for subsidised TCB goods, according to police and eyewitnesses.

One of the victims, Nasima Begum, 43, died on the way to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Another victim, an unidentified man aged around 45, was pronounced dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Six injured people are undergoing treatment at NITOR and DMCH, said Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman.

Nasima's mother, Shahida Begum, said her daughter worked as a cleaner and had gone to buy discounted TCB products due to financial hardship.

"I later found her buried under the bricks. People rescued her and rushed her to the hospital," she said.

Eyewitness Reazul Bepari said he heard a loud bang before seeing the wall collapse on those waiting in the queue. Locals removed the debris and rescued the victims.

A student of Mirpur University College, Mohammad Arian, said the wall had been built a few years ago and might have collapsed due to recent rainfall. Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the incident.
