Popular filmmaker Gias Uddin Selim is set to release his new flash fiction “Pother Pechal” on Chorki. The production will premiere at 12 am on May 7 and will be available exclusively on the platform.
The cast includes Yash Rohan, Bonne Hasan, Monir Hasan Khan Shimul, Ashok Bepari, Pronab Ghosh, and Sanjida Yasmin Snigdha. The poster of the project was released on Chorki’s verified Facebook page on April 29.
The title “Pother Pechal” may remind audiences of Satyajit Ray’s classic film “Pather Panchali”. However, the director confirmed that the similarity is only in the words of the title but the story is completely different.
The story follows Bayezid, an auto-rickshaw driver whose life revolves around his daily work. His life changes when Uma enters unexpectedly. Uma is a young novelist trying to publish her first book. The story develops through their interaction and conversations, as two people from very different social backgrounds come together.
Selim said, “Life is a long journey, and countless stories are created along the way. In this fiction, I have tried to look at some issues from a different perspective. It tells the story of two people from two different classes. There is a discussion of class and emotions. Some may see it as something unequal, but I see it as an attempt to portray a simple relationship in a humane way. It will present a human form of relationships beyond social taboos.”
Yash Rohan said, “This is a story about talent. Talent is something that can exist anywhere, at any time, in any way. This story reflects that idea, where talent appears in the most unexpected places.” Speaking about his experience of driving an auto-rickshaw for the role, he added, “It was a different experience. I will talk about it another time.”
Bonne Hasan, who plays Uma, said, “Uma is a strong and independent woman. Naturally, she faces many opposing forces. At one point, Bayezid enters her life. While she struggles with others, Bayezid brings a different perspective. A human connection forms between them. It is not exactly love, but nothing is completely outside the idea of love.”
The screenplay and dialogues are written by Selim, based on a story by Shipra Debnath. The project is jointly produced by Alpha-i and Chorki.
