A total of 173 flights were cancelled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport between February 28 and Wednesday due to the temporary closure of airspace in several Middle Eastern countries following the US-Israeli attack on Iran and subsequent counterattacks.
Of the total, 25 flights were cancelled on Wednesday alone.
The information was confirmed by Kawsar Mahmud, public relations officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
According to CAAB sources, 23 flights were cancelled on February 28, 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, 39 on March 3 and 25 on Wednesday.
Among Wednesday’s cancelled flights were four each operated by Qatar Airways and US-Bangla Airlines, two each by Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, eight by Air Arabia and five by Emirates.
Since February 28, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan have temporarily closed their airspace, directly impacting flight operations at Dhaka airport.
Passengers travelling to Middle Eastern destinations are facing disruptions and uncertainty due to the cancellations.
