The weekly cabinet meeting is set to take place tonight at the National Parliament building, where austerity measures to save electricity and energy may be discussed.

The meeting will begin at around 9:00 pm in the cabinet room of the parliament complex, and will be chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Sources said important decisions related to energy-saving measures may be discussed. A cabinet member told The Daily Star that although working from home, online classes, and austerity steps are not part of the formal agenda, those issues are likely to be discussed.

Weekly cabinet meetings are typically held in the morning or afternoon at the Prime Minister’s Office or the Secretariat, unless they are special sessions linked to the budget. In that context, parliament officials described tonight’s meeting at the parliament building as unusual.

A press conference is scheduled to be held after the meeting at the parliament media centre.
