Oscar Bangladesh Committee has invited applications from local producers and directors to select the country’s entry for the “International Feature Film” category of the 99th Academy Awards. Interested producers and directors must complete the application process by September 16, 2026.
The film selected by the committee will represent Bangladesh in the “International Feature Film” category at the 99th Oscars, according to the rules of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
To qualify, a film must be more than 40 minutes long. Feature-length narrative films, animation films and documentaries can apply.
More than 50 per cent of the film’s original dialogue must be in a Bangladeshi language. The film must also have clear and accurate English subtitles.
The film must have been commercially released for the general public in a cinema in Bangladesh between October 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026. It must also have been screened for at least seven consecutive days at the same cinema. The film’s creative control must primarily be held by Bangladeshi citizens or permanent residents, the notice said.
Films that were made available to audiences before their commercial theatrical release will not be eligible.This includes films released or shown on television, pay-per-view, OTT or streaming platforms, DVD, aircraft, or through the internet before their theatrical release.
The applicants must also meet all applicable rules and eligibility requirements set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 99th Academy Awards.
Applicants must fill in the prescribed online form and submit the required information and documents by September 16.
The committee warned that applications may be rejected if they contain incorrect or incomplete information or fail to meet the Academy’s rules. The jury board will announce the selected film on September 27 at 11am at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka.
